PARISH OF DRUMCREE
Mission Statement: Our Parish is a Christ-centred community. In Baptism we are challenged by the Spirit to live and share the Gospel message. Through proclaiming the Gospel message to all, Growth in Faith, Liturgy, Justice Issues and Ecumenism we extend our love and care to all people providing support in renewing and deepening our faith. We value the gifts and talents of each of our Parishioners and invite them to use these in responding to Christ’s invitation to all of us to follow Him and spread the Good News to the whole world.

Next Friday we conclude our Parish Retreat 'Fish on Friday – For an Easter Like Never Before'.   These past weeks we have been walking with the Lord towards a celebration of His Passion, Death and Resurrection at Easter.  In this last week as we approach Passion Sunday and Holy Week we will be joined by Sean Goan.  Sean is the Faith Development Officer with Le Céile Trust in Dublin  and holds a post-graduate degree in scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome.  Sean often works with parish groups, and is very experienced in presenting biblical themes and texts to non specialist groups. He is the author of Let the Reader Understand - a series of three books on the Sunday Readings.  This will be a very special end to our Retreat and everyone is warmly invited to come along to listen as Sean helps us gather our thoughts on how a better understanding of the Passion of Jesus can help us celebrate Easter – like never before.

Reflection

Traced through time

If you walk a beach you see lines traced in the sands,
remaining there till washed away.
Or the way the sea can change the shape of the coast with its gentle and rough tides.

Our feast this day
is of one whose lines have not been washed away,
the one who traced the gospel of Jesus
on the shores of a country and shaped its future;

for what he traced in the hearts of people
has remained through centuries
of prosperity and of poverty,
of persecution and peace -

the faith of Patrick and its effects through a
history of hardship,
the statue of Patrick in younger countries,
where his people shared that faith,
the words of Patrick, a consolation and a spur
to put the concerns of God first in life.

And with Patrick we recall our people
who shared faith and love
in the homes of their own country
and among their own people;
parents, grandparents, extended family,
priests, sisters, brothers,
and men and women who, like Patrick, heard that call
to go among others and share that
message
of God’s saving love for people;
of education, health and dignity
where those might not be found.

The lines of faith have been traced
on many sands,
the gospel has put words on the music of time,
and we are grateful and celebrate the legacy of one who came in God’s name
and of many who lived in God’s name.

Patrick’s gift was the gospel of Jesus,
our celebrations this day renews our thanks for that gift.

Prayer for Emigrants
Lord, bless all those who have left our country
and now live in other lands.  Give them a strong faith so that they will always put their trust in you and make you known by the example of their lives.
Console those who are lonely because they are separated from those whey love.  Help all missionaries who are working far from home to make your love known.  Bless our people overseas who are sick or in prison.  We pray for foreigners living in our country that they may experience our hospitality.  Grant your eternal welcome to our emgrants who have died and to all the dead.          Amen
