Reflection With the power of the spirit The spirit of a person is within the unique cluster of gifts, exuberances, talents, loves, hopes worries, hurts, anxieties, that makes each person unique, never to be replaced. It is what we remember of someone who has left us. Jesus spoke from the depths of his spirit, from what made him unique: Son of God, Son of Mary, Word of Heaven, Human Word, Bread of God, Human Flesh, for the life of the world, and at the very last he gave up his Spirit that his Spirit might live: the Spirit of wisdom to teach the true way of life, the Spirit of compassion to reach out to all of us, the Spirit of courage to follow through his work to the end, the Spirit of gentleness to invite each to the embrace of God, the Spirit of forgiveness to move on always to deeper love. And this Spirit gave him power, a power of conviction and of love, so that the ears of all were on his word. This is the power of his people, the Spirit he shares through all time. What made him unique still invites all of us to be his people, the community of believers, the Church of God. |
