The Catechism was first published in 1992 during the pontificate of Pope John Paul II. The official Latin text was produced in 1997 and it has been translated into many languages including English. The Catechism is as an authoritative statement of the Catholic faith. It is intended to be used as an authentic reference text for teaching Catholic doctrine.
