Cemetery Sunday:  the weather was not kind to us but the celebration of Mass in the Church was very prayerful and dignified and those in the Pastoral Centre felt very much part of it.  Thanks to all who participated and assisted with the distribution of Holy Communion, readers, provided adequate sound and to those who were prepared to help but on the day were not required, especially the Knights of St. Columbanus.  The children who celebrated their First Communion recently braved the weather and were delightful to have present.  Thanks to all who prepared the liturgy - choir, servers, Francis and Team.  And to all who prepared and tidied the cemetery especially Jimmy.

Introducing the New Missal that will come into effect on the First Sunday of Advent:  To assist our preparation for changes in some of the words that we pray at Mass please see the question and answer below.  In addition you may wish to view the brief video and further explanations which are now available on www.catholicbishops.ie.  Related topics on the new edition of the Roman Missal are also on
www.liturgy-ireland.ie.

Is the Mass changing?  The structure of the Mass is not changing.  The order and the actions of the Mass remain unchanged.  The readings at Mass are not changed.  However, with the introduction of the new edition of the Roman Missal throughout the English speaking world, we will all notice a change in how the Mass sounds.  The translations of a number of our prayer texts from the original Latin have changed - sometimes by a particular word or in the word order.  Prayers that we have become used to reciting by memory now have to be relearned.  Prayers that we are used to hearing the priest say will sound different to us.

The style of language we will hear and pray may seem more formal to us and perhaps, in parts, more complex.  But over time, with praying of these texts, the sound of the Mass will again become familiar to us.

Reflection

As the Father sent me, so am I sending you

Today we remember the birth of the Church,
the day we give thanks to God
for being part of the work of Jesus,
sent among us from the love of God,
sent within us to share the love of God.

The bravest of all life's calls is to love,
to say yes to the call to love
husband or wife, children;
to say Yes to the call to love
the large family of God's people.

A call to all,
married, single,
priest, religious.

The birth of the Church
is like celebrating the birth of someone we love;
we celebrate who the person is,
not the ideal of what the person might be;
we give thanks for the person's past,
rejoice in another's present life,
and hope for the future.

We do that this day as Christians:
celebrate our Church as it is,
with its sinful members and its saints,
with its weak and its strong,
with its young and its old.

We celebrate the good done for many centuries
by people who took joyfully the words to their hearts,
As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.

And we want the Spirit of God
to refresh and renew within us
the desire we have
to receive and spread the love of God
wherever we can.

As the Father sent me, so am I sending you.
