PARISH OF DRUMCREE
Mission Statement: Our Parish is a Christ-centred community. In Baptism we are challenged by the Spirit to live and share the Gospel message. Through proclaiming the Gospel message to all, Growth in Faith, Liturgy, Justice Issues and
Ecumenism we extend our love and care to all people providing support in renewing and deepening our faith. We value the gifts and talents of each of our Parishioners and invite them to use these in responding to Christ's invitation to all of us to follow Him and spread the Good News to the whole world.

Parish Funerals - a note from the Pastor.
The death of a loved one, be it sudden or expected, is painful and difficult.  Nothing prepares individuals or families for it.  In the midst of this grief families have to organise funerals.  This is a very sensitive time and in a very short time in consultation with families, priest and undertaker funerals and liturgies are arranged that are dignified and fitting and can help a family in their journey through grief.
As you know in the space of six days recently our Parish had six funerals and there have been more since.  I am pleased that in the organising of funerals families have followed Parish and Diocesan guidelines: that is - funerals at St. Patrick's Church are at 10 a.m., Sunday funerals are held at the Sunday Mass schedule; burial of ashes follows Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church or if a Sunday can be at the 11.30 a.m. Mass in St John the Baptist Church; family
eulogies are given at the graveside or at refreshments following the funeral.I thank all the families concerned.
        Michael O'Dwyer, P.P.

Sunday 26th September is Priesthood Sunday: please keep the priests of the Parish - Diocesan and Jesuits - and past clergy - especially Fr. Brian as he settles into his new responsibilities - and native sons in your prayers today.  Another week has passed and still no appointment to replace Fr. Brian - keep that intention in your prayers also.
reMary Alocoque, St. Gall;
Presentation to Fr. Brian: as is customary in the Parish Parishioners who wish to make a contribution towards a presentation to Fr Brian to acknowledge his work and life among us can do so at the Church door after Masses this weekend.

anything that interests you, then simply place a slip of paper marked `CTS Request' in the collection basket or leave in the sacristy and we will obtain the book.  The CTS website address is www.cts-online.org.uk

Reflection

Not just a story - Dives and Lazarus

In one of the world's poorest cities
I saw a young boy
selling fruit at the railway platform.
He would make a few pence a day,
enough maybe to stay alive,
and God knows where he would sleep.

The inequality of opportunities in the world,
Dives and Lazarus -
not just a story but real life.

We don't all start life on a level playing field;
some walk uphill from the very beginning,
and Jesus was among the poorest of us.

Our heart must wince
at children who are hungry and homeless from birth,
at people who want a job and cannot get one,
at homelessness, addiction and any form of abuse;
for parents who cannot give to their children
the best of life and love they wish for them;
for elderly who are poor and neglected,
and we wonder what can we do.

For we are not the problem:
neither you nor I have caused the poverty of so many,
but we can be part of the solution.

We can join our hearts with the heart of God
and urgently wish to make things better;
we can join our hands to the hands of God
and urgently work to make things better,
and create within parish, neighbourhood, city and world,
places where a more just and caring
society is created.

Can we hear the cry of people who feel neglected
so that our hearts are moved with compassion
and our energies moved to give
time, love and care
to those who need help and support,
for they are the brothers and sisters of
Jesus?
