PARISH OF DRUMCREE
Mission Statement: Our Parish is a Christ-centred community. In Baptism we are challenged by the Spirit to live and share the Gospel message. Through proclaiming the Gospel message to all, Growth in Faith, Liturgy, Justice Issues and
Ecumenism we extend our love and care to all people providing support in renewing and deepening our faith. We value the gifts and talents of each of our Parishioners and invite them to use these in responding to Christ’s invitation to all of us to follow Him and spread the Good News to the whole world.

A Message from the Pastor:

Fr. Brian White is leaving us.  This news has been greeted with disbelief, shock and regret, but alas the news is true.  For now, let us pray for each other and especially for Fr. Brian in this time of transition, change and acceptance.  Let us give him all the support, prayer and encouragement that he deserves.  Fr. Brian has been there for many of us in our time of need - in our joyous times, on those glorious days, in times of sorrow and during those times when we needed the light of Christ to guide us - let us return the blessing.
                           Michael O’Dwyer, P.P.

Friends,

This is probably the most difficult thing I have ever sat at my computer to write. There is so much that I would like to convey but mere words will never fully sum up what I want to say at this time – my thanks, my feelings, my hopes as I say farewell (fare well) but not goodbye.
What is in that word ‘farewell’?
The word is really two words. The first part 'fare’ means to be on, a journey. For these past 7 and a bit years, I have been allowed to journey with so many of you -. It has been a privilege to be have been invited and allowed to do that. I feel truly humbled as I look back to have shared so many special memories that bring a tear to the eye… invoking so many emotions - friendship, sorrow, joy, thanksgiving, in prayer. As I have tried to be with you on your ‘fare’ this ‘fare’ for me has been so special.
When I say special, I mean that. Many of you know that Drumcree Parish was my first assignment as a priest – and it was the best 7 years of my life. I could not have asked to have been placed in a better parish
What I say next I don’t say lightly! You should be proud of your home. Of this place, where you have been born and/or reared. In this parish I have met the best people you could ever meet. As a people you welcomed me, you nurtured me and allowed me to be a priest in your parish. Thank you so much. This place, that I was proud to call home, will always be in my heart.
Maybe it takes a ‘blow-in’ to say it but you all are good, good people and you should be so proud to say that this is your home. Proud, because there is a heart in this community that is real and caring and alive and active. No matter what image the media or others might like to portray you are blessed to be able to call this your home.
I was dreading the phone call that I got last weekend asking me to take on a new assignment. I depart for Blackrock in Co. Louth and I just hope that I will be half as happy there as I have been here.
I will miss you but continue to think of you and keep you in the prayers. Please God, we will not be strangers. I have no doubt that the next few years will continue to bring blessings to Drumcree Parish. With the new hall and under the pastoral care of Fr O’Dwyer, and with the support of one another – all the seeds that have been planted will continue to grow
Please continue to use our lovely chapels - they are your ‘prayer homes’. It always gave me great life to see the strength of prayer from young and old alike, as you gathered both privately and collectively as members of the Body of Christ. May you all continue to ‘fare’ in Sacrament and prayers - and all will be 'well'.
With much thanks for you love, friendship, acceptance and care,
Fr. Brian

Reflection

Whoever does not carry the cross and
follow me cannot be my disciple

Each of us has our own cross to carry;
the weaknesses of body, mind or spirit,
which affect our lives,
or loneliness, illness, failure,
and our personal secret problems.
All of us carry burdens
which are known or unknown to others.

Our cross may be caused by others:
we may be victims of greed and violence,
or of others’ addictions.

For the Lord himself carried the cross
of poverty and misunderstanding,
of bereavement when Joseph died,
of loss of friends like Lazarus,
of the pain of his mother as he went to death;
he has carried burdens like ours.
And each cross is different;
at times we feel we could carry
another’s cross more lightly.
And we resent the crosses of our lives caused by others.

The Lord has suffered,
and promises us the companionship we need.
He weeps with us,
suffers with us,
promises friendship
now and forever.

Our way of the cross, like his,
is the path to resurrection.
With our hand in his wounded hand,
we can carry the burdens life brings,
and follow him,
 with confidence
and with a helping hand,
to carry the crosses of others.
