Sacred Heart of JesusThis great feast in the Church’s liturgical year reminds the faithful of the infinite love of Jesus who died on the cross for all mankind. The feast was instituted as a result of the appearances of Our Lord to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque in 1675. On those occasions Jesus revealed the First Friday devotion and promised the protection of His divine Heart to those who practised it. The celebration of the feast was extended to the general calendar of the Church by Pius IX in 1856.

This year the Solemnity will be marked in the Church of St John the Baptist in the following way:

6.00pm: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

7.00pm: Holy Mass                                            

7.30pm: Public Act of Consecration                       

7.45pm: Scriptural Rosary                                                                     

8.15pm: Litany of the Sacred Heart                                                          

8.25pm: Chaplet of Divine Mercy                                                             

8.35pm: Reflection Prayer                                                                      

8.45pm: Benediction
